P roduction and inventory control; logistics and supply chains modeling and optimization; queueing systems; Internet and networks modeling and analysis.
D r. Liu obtained his BEng in the
Department of Shipbuilding Engineering and MEng in
management engineering form Huazhong University of
Science and Technology (HUST). He worked as an engineer in Hu
Dong Shipbuilding Yard in
At HKUST, Dr. Liu teaches Production Planning and Control, Operations Management and Operations Research at both undergraduate and graduate levels. His research activities are centered on stochastic models in operations research and applications of these models in business processes and engineering systems. He is currently working on a number of research topics, including supply contracts in a rolling horizon framework, pricing and service quality decisions in competitive environments, and mechanisms and models for complex networks. Dr. Liu is also actively supervising student research at different levels. Under his supervision or co-supervision, four doctoral students have successfully completed their dissertation, two Ph.D. students are expected to graduate by the end of 2005 and while two other Ph.D. students are making good progress in their research.
